Alcohol-Free? Join the Sober-Curious Revolution

Cocktail Umbrella - sober curious- alcohol-free

At one year alcohol-free, one year happily sober, I barely ever think of drinking alcohol. I have finally moved past the feeling of ” Now what will I do if I am not drinking”. When the cravings occasionally do come, I go for a long walk or replace it with something quickly. Then it is over… the thoughts of drinking leave as fast as they come. The Wine Witch has left the building and I’m simply not a drinker anymore.   One Year Alcohol Free – Why I Don’t Struggle to Never Drink Again

I have been a Student of Sobriety now for over a year and I am truly enjoying the wholeness of my choice. I thought it was just about drinking when I stopped. But it’s not just about being alcohol-free it’s about life! Sobriety is about Living Free!

I am not afraid of any part of going back to drinking. I actually say to myself a few times a week… “Sober feels so good because you can trust yourself, you make good choices”. The peace it brings to truly know that I won’t go back to the sad, unpredictable woman I was when I was drinking is transforming. That old drinking me is like a cardboard doll that doesn’t exist anymore. Almost like the paper dolls, I used to play with as a kid. Living alcohol-free I don’t have the shame or guilt that I woke with so often after drinking more than I meant to, over and over again. I have replaced the sorrow. anxiety and hopelessness with joy, peace, and faith in myself. I trust my new AF life, it works. Ditching the Shame When You Go Sober

Working hard to go alcohol-free and stay sober- studying and focusing and having the courage to fight for what you know is right for you – it is worth every hard night or sad day I have ever had. Don’t give up. Stay sober. It matters – You Matter! It’s worth it.

Did you know that even a 1/2 pint of beer or a small glass of wine can lead to metabolic syndrome, and metabolic syndrome is implicated in the majority of COVID deaths? It is a great time to go alcohol-free! Beat the hangxiety that can drag you down all day after an unintended binge and chip away at a bit of the Covid anxiety while you’re at it. Sober curious? Alcohol-free is the solution!

Romanticising a drink or two?

It’s just wine that seductive voice whispers …

“Wow you’re stressed” she gently cooes
Filing her black nails
Looking amused
“It’s not healthy for you to be so worked up
Look at the state of your emotional cup!”
She’s laughing!

The Wine Witch isn’t beautiful, she’s an ugly old crone with a heart of stone

Holding her green fingers in front of her face
Admiringly
Examining them absentmindedly
Then glancing
Smiling back at me
She’s looking great
Like she has it all together
Smooth black cocktail dress
Never a hair out of place, ever

Wine Witch Sober Curious Revolution Solution

She asks if I like being in perpetual chaos
I try to ignore her
To show her who’s boss
I’m like a cat on a hot tin roof today
Trying not to listen to the words she’ll say

One thing’s for sure though
She can’t help me anyway
She can’t take any of my fears away
There’s no spell for that!
I need to work through it
So she can take her broomstick
And her pointy hat and …

I walk over to her to ask her to leave now
I glance at her reflection in the mirror
Wow!
Gone is the beauty, the image of cool bliss
Replaced by a haggard old creature with an ugly expression
How did I miss this?

That leaves an impression certainly
On reflection
It’s all about perception
And looking more closely

Does my real life take place
When I choose to ditch wine?
Who wants to sleep through their life
Such a waste

Life can be beautiful sober
Be brave enough to taste
And tough enough to decide to stick with it

After all
Sobriety tastes of all the colours of the rainbow doesn’t it? 🌈

Rainbow cup sobriety tastes all the colors of the rianbow

Beat the Binge Drinking Routine – Put the Wine Whitch to Sleep

Quit the harmful habit loop
If you want the sober fruit
It might not be pretty
But it’s the hard truth

There’s freedom in what’s true
In you doing you
Forget what others do
Do what’s right for you

Your journey might be different
Your life is still significant
Skip the sleepy, loopy juice
For your overworked body
Call a truce

Heal your soul
Let the bruises fade
Be proud of recent decisions you’ve made
You’re not the same person you were anyway

So if you’ve said sorry
Quit apologising today

You’re a fighter
A warrior and you’ve got what it takes
Darling, you weren’t made to just hide away

Under heavy boulders of wine
There you can’t breathe let alone shine
Be brave
Get up and face the day

Get surfing
Get curious
It’ll be okay

When a craving raises its ugly head
Distract from it
Get curious about the emotions you’re feeling instead
