In our online community BOOM Rethink the Drink, we host monthly alcohol-free challenges that start with Dry January. Remember New Year’s Day? January 1st, 2020? It seems like we lived in a different world at the beginning of this new decade. Just a few months ago things were simpler. Life was simpler. Everything felt so much more secure and certain than it does now. But honestly, staying alcohol-free today is exactly the same as it was then. Simple – but not easy – Difficult – but absolutely the best gift you can give yourself.
These two poems were written by members of our community back in January, to celebrate starting a new decade alcohol-free. If you are struggling to stay alcohol-free today, whether as part of a month-long challenge or sober for life, come talk to us, we’ll help you Rethink the Drink.
My life was unpredictable
My head was in a spin
Should I drink on a Monday?
I could get a few in !
Those few turned into many
Hidden under towels
Who was I kidding
The alcohol terrorist
He knew he had me now
Sneaking up & taking gulps
Was my favourite game
I’d gone beyond caring
About the guilt & the shame
I’d start again tomorrow
No one needs to know
This is my little secret
More time I can borrow
Can’t I ?
Can’t you ?
Just stop today ?
No better way to start this new decade 🥳
I’m alcohol-free and loving me! Tea-Totally Free!
Strange but true, who knew?
I can dress up for a night out with my husband, friends or both
I don’t have to take an “I promise not to get drunk oath”
I can do my hair and makeup and look attractive aswell
I can listen to music whilst getting ready
Although I can’t sing and you can really tell (Haha!)
I’m alcohol- free and loving me!
I can go for a lovely meal and savour every taste
I can choose a starter or dessert with my main course
Or I can have both,
It won’t go to waste
I’ll remember it
Because with wine it won’t be laced
Loving my life alcohol-free! Sobriety is Sobrenity !
I can do all that you see without
Alcohol making an appearance,
I can do all that and be
Tea-totally free! 😃😏
