The beginning of a New Year is a common time to reflect on our lives and look forward to the changes we want to make. If you’re reading this, chances are that you’ve been reflecting on your life with alcohol and you don’t like what you see. Whether your goal is to do Dry January for your health, to take a break and re-evaluate your relationship with alcohol, or to pursue an Alcohol Free life, you are in the right place.
No matter why you’re here, the thought of being Alcohol Free can be uncomfortable. For some, it will just feel weird. For others, it will feel downright impossible. I was in the second boat, and was absolutely terrified to let go of my bottle. I couldn’t even begin to imagine what life would look like without it.
My goal for this month, in hosting Dry January for the BOOM Rethink the Drink Community, is to turn that notion on its head. Instead of being afraid of what we think we’re losing, I want us to begin to think with excitement about what we gain by going alcohol free. To that effect, each day we will usher a negative aspect of drinking out the door and welcome its flip side into our lives. We’ll start with some of the more obvious stuff, and then work our way below the surface as the month progresses. Hopefully, by the end of January, we’ll be able to breathe a collective sigh of relief as we release the fears that were holding us back and open up to the wonderful things that being alcohol free has to offer.
I am looking forward to starting a dialogue and sharing our stories in hopes that it will be a healing journey for all. Onwards and upwards into 2021! Let’s enjoy Dry January together!
