Sober Perspective – The Simple Gift of Presence

Sober Perspective- the Simple Gift of Presence

It’s About Paying Attention

My cat’s loud purr
His soft fur
His need for comfort
Sitting on my chest
When I’m busy trying to read
Or rest

My children’s laughter
Their too loud chatter
Their need for reassurance and calm
“It’s ok no need to sound the alarm”

Earlier our evening meal
Sat at the table
I notice how I feel
Conversation sounds reverberate
Around the kitchen
For wine I’m not wishing

Kid’s looking for our approval
And our love
They’re in no doubt
We have more than enough

Alcohol’s not what it’s about
It’s really not
Booze lessens and takes cheap shot after shot
Making you forget what you’ve got

Wine you’re not really worth a mention
Not anymore
‘Cos life’s all about paying attention
And I wasn’t before
