Alcohol Promises … ?

empty wine glasses alcohol promises

To escape…
What does it mean?

A good film
A warm shower
A cosy welcoming room
Time with family
Time for hobbies
Cooking a meal
Tuning in to how you really feel?
Seeing friends
Going out and about?

Or does it to you mean numbing out?
Not thinking that straight?
Leaving things too late?
Surrendering to a negative “fate”?
Falling asleep frequently early?
Getting offended with no justification?
Other than unjustified irritation?
Staying in bed?
Nursing a weary head?
And teary mind?
Emotions running riot?
Instead of being quiet?

It just doesn’t work
Alcohol’s a jerk
Your fate isn’t set
You can still be your best yet
You just need to get your needs met
Really
They’re as important as those of your family
And vital to be happy

Can you see it?
Can you feel it?
Alcohol promises
Silver and gold
You’ll wait in vain
And mental pain

Alcohol Promises
But sobriety?
It delivers it all
Escape, energy, experiences, passion for life, positivity
I mean seriously!
Which option is the best bet really?

Which would feed your soul clearly?

Which option would love you dearly?

And which would not and would leave you to rot?
