Dry January is an annual celebration of possibilities in our online community Boom Rethink the Drink. It is one of 12 annual, month-long alcohol-free challenges that we share, and have been sharing since 2017. This year for Dry January we decided to inspire each other to get out and walk every day by sharing images of our walks with the hashtag #walkingaroundtheworld. Some of those images were used in videos to remind us how connected we are to each other even though we are separated by oceans and continents.
January has been a long, cold month in many parts of the world. But when I watch these videos I see the strength of a community coming together to inspire each other while challenging themselves.
How can you lift your mood today? Celebrate the beauty you see around you. Share the Journey.
What comes after Dry January? I’ve noticed over the weekend, how the beginnings of spring are starting around here – it kind of catches me out every year – how quickly winter moves into spring. We were walking in the woods near dusk yesterday and there was a LOT of birdsong. Plus, the sheep in the field just up the lane are looking pretty plump, so we’re getting close to lamb season (which I just love).
Spring is such a lovely accompaniment to new beginnings (or maybe vice versa?) The seasonal changes always help me to think about the next phases approaching. This change gets me thinking especially about the chance to be outside more and what I might do with that opportunity. Lots of time to spend on interesting things without alcohol in the picture.
In our online community, we’ll continue with the hashtag #walkingaroundtheworld and we’ll add #atunedinfebruary, #februaryfitness, and any other inspiring #s we choose to share. The point in the end is to share the journey! Every month that I have stayed alcohol-free since going sober in 2015 has been an adventure in self-discovery. It might not always be easy but the struggles are worth it. Together we’re stronger and alcohol-free Is Free!
What comes after Dry January? Why not continue alcohol-free? Why not continue to feel the positive effects of not drinking? Continue to explore the benefits of a mind free of alcohol’s influence. Continue to sleep better. Maybe eat better. Continue to find ways to use that extra time you have from not drinking.
