Does alcohol drown out your natural ability to tame your anxiety?
Anxiety that’s screaming to just be understood and heard
Like a woodpecker or similar determined bird?
Does your anxiety just want to deviously play?
Or could it have something important to say?
If we continue to ignore it every day
Why doesn’t it just give up
And go away?
I think the problem could be
We need to listen to our anxiety
But alcohol drowns out the frequency
So the message can’t be delivered
Like something trying to get through to us spiritually
But we can’t hear because the alcohol distraction is too loud
I wonder if we just tried to listen
We wouldn’t need to be on this “Merry” go round ?
What if the “big bad wolf” anxiety
The “scary” entity outside our door
Needed to tell us something important
But we didn’t want to listen before?
If you are drinking to drown your fears
It’s a futile thing
You’ll never win
Your demons can swim
Sit with the discomfort and the emptiness here
Don’t try to fill it up with wine
Or you will be the one to drown
Sitting across from your demons
Face to face
Whilst not swigging something toxin laced
You can better deal with them with a clear head
And find the right ways
To put them to bed
But if they are too big to conquer tonight
Distract yourself with what makes your heart light
There’s no particular way that’s right
Think about your worries tomorrow instead
And try to have a restful night ❤😴💤

I listened to someone describe the following ground exercise to help when anxiety gets overwhelming. She called it 5,4,3,2,1.
5: What are 5 things that you SEE, around you, right now?
4: What are 4 things you HEAR, right now?
3: What are 3 things you are TOUCHING, right now?
2: What are 2 things that you SMELL, right now?
1: What is 1 thing that you TASTE, right now?
Don’t leave one group until your brain answers each question…. wait until you acknowledge each thing. It’s not a race, it’s a way to ground yourself. Remind yourself that you ARE okay, there’s no need to fight, flight, or freeze.
