Join Us in Discussing the book Chasing the Scream by Johann Hari
Read more: Join Us in Discussing the book Chasing the Scream by Johann HariI first read Johann Hari’s book Chasing the Scream, in September 2016. I was 18 months sober and working with my orchestra on a cruise ship. While my colleagues were all enthusiastically enjoying the all-you-can-drink hospitality I found refuge in the ship’s library. I had read a lot of what is often called “quit lit” in…

Top Sobriety Blog Posts to Help You Stop Drinking and Stay Alcohol-Free
Read more: Top Sobriety Blog Posts to Help You Stop Drinking and Stay Alcohol-FreeSobriety blogs, and blogs in general, have evolved a lot since I read my first post on Unpickled back in 2015. In 2015 blogs were mostly personal, an expression of an individual’s ideas or experience enthusiastically shared in this new forum of the internet. Blogs had not yet become the”store fronts” that they now are.…

An Alcohol Awareness Month Public Service Announcement
Read more: An Alcohol Awareness Month Public Service AnnouncementAlcohol is… Alcohol is not a wonderful magic potion. It’s just a drug. I would love to get the word out; to undo the misinformation and the manipulation by alcohol advertising which creates false expectations of how “good” alcohol will make you feel and how it’s “just what you need”, because “you worked hard for…

Blackout – A Boom Community Book Club Selection
Read more: Blackout – A Boom Community Book Club SelectionApril is Alcohol Awareness month in the U.S. and I’m thinking of the absolute opposite of awareness… alcohol-related blackouts. I often drank to the blackout stage, probably because I crammed my drinking of large quantities into pretty short periods. Remembering the last hour of my evening was impossible. Usually, I drank at home, but that…

Read more: Perspective from Sober at 60Why did I decide to quit drinking? I used to point fingers at other people’s problems with alcohol instead of looking at my own drinking. I had a real problem being truthful with myself. It was hard to admit but I had a lot of growing up to do once I put down the bottle.…

10 THINGS SOBRIETY HAS TAUGHT ME
Read more: 10 THINGS SOBRIETY HAS TAUGHT MEI think it would be fair to say that the last few years have been a little tricky for humankind. The last few years have been full of pain and fear and disconnection. News and pictures of political tension, global warming, and war are hard to escape. I know, for myself, this can sometimes feel overwhelming.…

“It was a random day of internet searching that brought me to Boozemusings Blog and to Boom Community, and my life has been changed by it. I needed some kind of “epiphany” for a mind change, and I have learned things about alcohol and its physical effects that have given me that kind of enlightenment. I check in several times a day and it is like meeting with my family. The resources here are incredible, and inexhaustible. I have quit lit books, etc. Will check out some of the other resources in others’ responses, but for me, Boom has been the answer. I feel it has to do with the tireless work of Boom’s creators. Thank you, Boom!!!!!!!”
