My first taste of alcohol was during my senior…

Blackout – A Boom Community Book Club Selection
Read more: Blackout – A Boom Community Book Club SelectionApril is Alcohol Awareness month in the U.S. and I’m thinking of the absolute opposite of awareness… alcohol-related blackouts. I often drank to the blackout stage, probably because I crammed my drinking of large quantities into pretty short periods. Remembering the last hour of my evening was impossible. Usually, I drank at home, but that…

Perspective from Sober at 60
Read more: Perspective from Sober at 60Why did I decide to quit drinking? I used to point fingers at other people’s problems with alcohol instead of looking at my own drinking. I had a real problem being truthful with myself. It was hard to admit but I had a lot of growing up to do once I put down the bottle.…

10 THINGS SOBRIETY HAS TAUGHT ME
Read more: 10 THINGS SOBRIETY HAS TAUGHT MEI think it would be fair to say that the last few years have been a little tricky for humankind. The last few years have been full of pain and fear and disconnection. News and pictures of political tension, global warming, and war are hard to escape. I know, for myself, this can sometimes feel overwhelming.…

10 Tools to Help You Break the Alcohol Habit
Read more: 10 Tools to Help You Break the Alcohol HabitWhy do so many smokers keep smoking though they say they want to quit? Or people say they need to eat heathier or exercise more but don’t do it? Read more: Sober Diaries – A Boom Community Book Club SelectionThe Sober Diaries by Clare Pooley is light, airy, truthful and funny as hell. Unlike many books on addiction and recovery, the “heavy going,” the “how to,” the “reasons why,” and “cautionary tales”, Sober Diaries speaks to the realities of actual drinking and actual recovery from an actual person who I could relate to so…

Sober in Las Vegas
Read more: Sober in Las VegasRecently, my boyfriend and I escaped to Las Vegas for a quick weekend get-away. We needed to see the sun and get our minds off work, kids and life. I will say this as a disclaimer: Vegas is NOT a good idea for anyone in early sobriety. I have over two years of absolute, 100%…

“It was a random day of internet searching that brought me to Boozemusings Blog and to Boom Community, and my life has been changed by it. I needed some kind of “epiphany” for a mind change, and I have learned things about alcohol and its physical effects that have given me that kind of enlightenment. I check in several times a day and it is like meeting with my family. The resources here are incredible, and inexhaustible. I have quit lit books, etc. Will check out some of the other resources in others’ responses, but for me, Boom has been the answer. I feel it has to do with the tireless work of Boom’s creators. Thank you, Boom!!!!!!!”
