Dear Liver,
I am so sorry I have tortured you. You have always been there for me. You’ve cleaned my blood, detoxified my body and regulated my hormones for many years. What thanks did you get? None. Occasionally I poured healthy food into you but then followed it by adding ethanol in great quantities like you were a car. I’m actually nicer to my car than I am to you.
I Promise I’ll Stay Sober!
I thought that giving you the occasional beetroot and a couple of green juices a month was enough, but now I realize that I was sorely mistaken. I recently saw a video of what you must look like now and it was such a sad sight to behold. I was so freaked out that I immediately texted a picture to my best friend who drinks way more than I do in hopes of saving her and her liver. She was at work and I don’t think she took it in the spirit it was meant. Too many friends and their livers have been lost in the last few years. I honestly don’t know why I ignored that.
But I promise I’ll stay Sober! I’ve had enough and so have you!
There’s nothing I can do about the past but I absolutely promise you that I will not drown you in any more ethanol. Those days are over. I’ll be giving you plenty of time to heal by eating and drinking only healthy nourishing things (I might sneak in a few Neuman-O’s peanut butter cookies, if that’s OK, if not that’s totally cool).
I’m so sorry for everything. Please give me another chance. I hope it’s not too late.

Thoughts on liver repair –
Your liver is the largest organ in your body. It’s overall health has an effect on you physically and mentally. Poor liver health can bring you down and cause you to feel depressed and dark. Your liver can heal from the damage done if you stop drinking before it gets too far- And stay sober.
I was surprised to learn that our livers can be damaged without the damage showing up on blood tests. There is a terrific documentary in this post that explains that well, Disney Mentality Many of the withdrawal symptoms experienced both long and short term when you stop drinking are caused by the energy your body demands to repair your liver.
