Sober Evolution from Surrender to Service

I woke up this morning and for the first time in the last couple weeks I wasn’t filled with panic, anxiety and fear. It was a moment of surrender. It brought back that moment with my sobriety. When I surrendered to the fact that I had a problem; I accepted I couldn’t drink, I accepted I needed help to stop, I accepted that it was what it was and the only thing to do, was to do something about it.

I can’t change what’s happening in the world right now. It’s happening no matter how I feel about it. I can sit here and feel anxious, worried and stressed about all the awful things that will come of this or I can accept it and focus on what I CAN do about it.

In our sobriety, being of service is one of the best ways to support ourselves, help others and stay sober. I know this is exactly what I need to do right now. Be of service to those who are in most need of support.

I’m going to collect items from friends and family to donate to my city’s food banks, which will definitely be a needed resource more so than usual in the coming weeks. I’m going to see if I can volunteer at shelters or wherever volunteers are needed. There must be ways I can help and I’m determined to use all of this energy that’s been taking over me, to do some good for my community.

Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.

I’m hearing the call in my heart to help and I won’t dismiss it. I may not have much, but I have more than some and so I must be of service.
