Did you know that the harmful use of alcohol kills more than 3 million people each year, most of them men? So I was wondering, Do I have a problem with alcohol?

“I rebel; therefore I exist.”

A friendly conversation with existential observations : To Drink or Not to Drink
Me: “I can take it or leave it”
Pat: “Yes, but have you ever left it?”
M: “Well, no… I like it”
P: “Have you ever wondered if it is damaging your body and brain?”
M: “Not really, everybody I know drinks as much as I do, most of them drink more”
P: “How many alcohol units are in a pint of your favorite DIPA, Hopslam?”
M: “If I drink it out of a pint glass… one.”
P: “Nope… 3.2… if you drink 2 of them.. it’s more than a six-pack”
M: “Wow, no way …. are you trying to be a killjoy? I love my Hopslam!”
P: No I just care about you, you’re my brother… what is the safe weekly limit on alcohol units for a man according to the CDC?
M: 50?
P: No, 14 per week and never more than 5 in one day.
M: Killjoy.
P: Do you know how many people die from alcohol each year?
M: No, maybe 1000?
P: About 100,000/year in the US and 3.0 million worldwide.
M: No way, that’s how many have died worldwide of COVID in the world in a year.
P: I know here is a link you might want to look at… Harmful use of alcohol kills more than 3 million people each year, most of them men

M: Thanks Pat, I’m going to give this a closer look… I just wasn’t aware.

  1. A really good and profound post. Most of us are shocked when presented with the real # of units we drink/drank. Then there’s the effect on our families, friends, employers/employees and the local community. I’ve seen too many killed, or severely injured by booze. Best converted to something we can use to fuel our cars…..
