Learn it Through the Doing
Read more: Learn it Through the DoingI’ve heard that when Meryl Streep first reads a script she’s got a red pen at hand. If she comes across a word or phrase of her dialogue that she intuitively flinches at or that doesn’t make sense to her, she circles it. Then she keeps on reading. Later, as she works on the character…

The MAGIC TRICK
Read more: The MAGIC TRICKThere is no magic trick to this. No clever method. You stop drinking alcohol. And you take every day as a new one.And you don’t drink whatever happens. And you read and you do other things. And you live through feeling so very uncomfortable. And you live through feeling so scared and anxious. At first. And you…

More Joy Please
Read more: More Joy PleaseWhat makes us happy? What gives us joy? What brings real comfort? How do we find peace? Most of us could have easily answered those questions at age three or four or five. But when was the last time we even stopped to consider them? One of the soul-stripping effects of any addiction is the…

Nailing the Narcissist
Read more: Nailing the NarcissistI had a friend who I thought was funny, quirky and troublesome. She was troublesome, but I thought that together we were so much fun that everyone would forgive us for the scrapes we got into. I used to really like hanging out with her but things turned. Meeting up with her started to drain…

Reflection or Refraction
Read more: Reflection or RefractionWhen looking in a mirror, one sees a reflection. An exact image copied and reversed. Like looking back in time I can see all the imperfections, wrinkles and scars that made me/make me who I am. What I have become. If you look into a pool of water there is on the surface a reflection…

Loving Presence
Read more: Loving PresenceI feel that I am slowly adjusting to the reality of the commitment I have made to myself to remain alcohol-free, and I have to say that it feels so right and good. I like myself a lot better. I have never been an out of control, hitting rock-bottom drinker. My friends are a little…

Disney Mentality
Read more: Disney MentalityYesterday I watched a documentary called Drinking Yourself to Death and it really had me thinking and pondering. It was made in the UK in 2015 and the statistics were all UK. I have to believe things are very similar in the USA. Actually, things seem to have gotten worse these last few years. In…

Going alcohol-free can be a challenge but it is not the dramatic loss that you may expect it to be. Most people are afraid that without an occasional drink here and there the color will drain…

Finding the Cure for Alcoholism
Read more: Finding the Cure for AlcoholismI’ve been sober for almost ten years. I don’t call myself an alcoholic, but for lack of a better word, I used the term alcoholic in the title of this article. I could say that I have “Alcohol Use Disorder” or AUD, but those labels are both clinical and clumsy. I don’t identify as an…

“It was a random day of internet searching that brought me to Boozemusings Blog and to Boom Community, and my life has been changed by it. I needed some kind of “epiphany” for a mind change, and I have learned things about alcohol and its physical effects that have given me that kind of enlightenment. I check in several times a day and it is like meeting with my family. The resources here are incredible, and inexhaustible. I have quit lit books, etc. Will check out some of the other resources in others’ responses, but for me, Boom has been the answer. I feel it has to do with the tireless work of Boom’s creators. Thank you, Boom!!!!!!!”
