Thought for the Day : Hope
Read more: Thought for the Day : HopeAnother solstice marks another point on the yearly cycle. Things come into being and things pass away. This was my fifth summer solstice since I stopped drinking. I just had to get off the merry-go-round to nowhere. Nothing changes if nothing changes. It really comes down to the choices we make. The same lessons just…

How I Stopped Drinking Without AA
Read more: How I Stopped Drinking Without AANine years ago, I was in a dark place. I was unable to feel fully alive without drinking routinely, yet worried that I was losing my life to alcohol. I’d always understood that the only way out of that predicament was to accept that I was an alcoholic, head to Alcoholics Anonymous, and start working…

The Ultimate Inspiration and Resource Post for Staying Sober
Read more: The Ultimate Inspiration and Resource Post for Staying SoberI have been happily alcohol-free for over 9 years, but I never imagined enjoying staying sober long-term, until I experienced it. Before I gave up alcohol I loved to drink and intended to enjoy drinking throughout my hopefully long life. But about 10 years ago I realized that my nightly wine o’clock routine was becoming…

How Neuroplasticity and Neurogenesis Help You Stay Alcohol-Free
Read more: How Neuroplasticity and Neurogenesis Help You Stay Alcohol-FreeWhen you give up alcohol you have to go through a process of change. I don’t mean the change of you’ve decided to try stopping drinking alcohol. On its own, it can be argued that that statement is meaningless and possibly/probably bound to fail. Maybe you’ve made a decision to give up alcohol and you…

Dive Into Dry July
Read more: Dive Into Dry JulyAustralia’s Dry July will be starting soon and it’s a great time for “sober curious” people to dip their toes in the pool. I’ve read some interesting critiques of the Dry July and Ocsober initiatives. It’s been said that paying people pledge money to take a month off alcohol encourages us to glorify drinking and…

Market Day
Read more: Market DayToday was market day in the village. The streets are closed, stalls are erected and local farmers and artisans display and vend their wares. It is a very popular event that comes about every second Sunday during the summer and draws people from quite some distances away. There is music, a man making balloon animals,…

The Beauty of Life Alcohol-Free
Read more: The Beauty of Life Alcohol-FreeThe other day a friend told me that when she was young she drank to magnify the beauty of life . That really struck me because that is exactly what I thought when I was young. When I drank with friends and with lovers, long before I really became addicted and drank just to drink…

A Burning Desire
Read more: A Burning DesireI have always loved a raging fire. Bonfires, beach fires, fires in the fireplace, candle flames… I find flames hypnotic and inspiring. Fire is visual music to me. In Portugal, forest fires are part of the late summer landscape. Sometimes a carelessly thrown cigarette butt will light up a eucalyptus grove and sometimes the fires…

Selling the Possibility of Loving Life Sober – Rethink the Drink
Read more: Selling the Possibility of Loving Life Sober – Rethink the DrinkI stopped drinking over four years ago and have been enthusiastically working on re-branding sobriety ever since. Drinking alcohol has been sold to most of us as the elixir of life since we were young children. I remember as a child listening to the grownups downstairs having a GREAT NOISY TIME while I went reluctantly up to…

“It was a random day of internet searching that brought me to Boozemusings Blog and to Boom Community, and my life has been changed by it. I needed some kind of “epiphany” for a mind change, and I have learned things about alcohol and its physical effects that have given me that kind of enlightenment. I check in several times a day and it is like meeting with my family. The resources here are incredible, and inexhaustible. I have quit lit books, etc. Will check out some of the other resources in others’ responses, but for me, Boom has been the answer. I feel it has to do with the tireless work of Boom’s creators. Thank you, Boom!!!!!!!”
