Squashing the brain chatter …
Read more: Squashing the brain chatter …Sitting with my emotions and thoughts has not been easy. In fact, it has been downright excruciating at times. Feeling them has also held the utmost jubilation and healing moments. I am ten months sober in just a few days. I had to dump all my alcohol, get rid of all my paraphernalia, and change…

Keep Going You Got This – Perspective from the Dune
Read more: Keep Going You Got This – Perspective from the DuneThere is a big sand dune at a beach I like to visit. I was a teen with my family the first time I saw it, took my husband there when we were dating, and have loved sharing it with our kids and our friends over the years. On every single visit, as soon as…

Drinking to Escape? Here’s Another Way
Read more: Drinking to Escape? Here’s Another WayI think it’s very normal to look around at all the stress and crap you have to put up with on a daily basis and want to run away from it all. I also think that many of us use or used alcohol to do just that. I know I did.

How Do You Help Someone Stop Drinking Before it’s Too Late? What if It’s You?
Read more: How Do You Help Someone Stop Drinking Before it’s Too Late? What if It’s You?When I was nearing the point where I had to stop drinking or risk losing myself to alcohol, I decided to do a bit of research. I sat down in front of my computer screen, a seemingly safe place to ask hard questions and searched the phrase “What is a high-functioning alcoholic?”. Sadly the definition…

Recovering is Uncovering-Be Patient With the Process
Read more: Recovering is Uncovering-Be Patient With the ProcessThe early work of sobriety is not drinking. It feels like all you do, who you are, what you read and listen to, and why you are awake and trying again. The physical part can be pretty easy for some but for others its a real bear. The good news is that physical changes are…

I drank for different reasons at different times in my life. In my twenties, my drinking stemmed from a strong desire to “belong”. I felt like, “one of the guys” when I could drink right along with them beer for beer, shot…

I have been struck by how many times I open a journal or notebook and see “I drank too much last night, I need to stop.” Six and a half years ago, I was at a very low…

“It was a random day of internet searching that brought me to Boozemusings Blog and to Boom Community, and my life has been changed by it. I needed some kind of “epiphany” for a mind change, and I have learned things about alcohol and its physical effects that have given me that kind of enlightenment. I check in several times a day and it is like meeting with my family. The resources here are incredible, and inexhaustible. I have quit lit books, etc. Will check out some of the other resources in others’ responses, but for me, Boom has been the answer. I feel it has to do with the tireless work of Boom’s creators. Thank you, Boom!!!!!!!”
