Empowerment Does Not Come in a Bottle – A Tribute to Women from Women
Read more: Empowerment Does Not Come in a Bottle – A Tribute to Women from WomenHave you ever thought of wine as Empowerment in a Bottle? I did! I drank for different reasons at different times in my life. In my twenties, my drinking stemmed from a strong desire to “belong”. I felt like, “one of the guys” when I could drink right along with them beer for beer, shot…

Alcohol I’m Over You – Sober is Just Smarter
Read more: Alcohol I’m Over You – Sober is Just SmarterI moved less than a year ago and am still organizing and reconfiguring some books and journals. I have been struck by how many times I open a journal or notebook and see “I drank too much last night, I need to stop.” Six and a half years ago, I was at a very low…

What’s it Like to Live in Sobertown?
Read more: What’s it Like to Live in Sobertown?I’ve been imagining Sobertown as a place to live. A real place where everyone is alcohol free. How would it feel to live there? What kind of places would they have for people to gather and make merry? What kind of drinks would restaurants and dance clubs serve? What kind of beverages would they be…

3 Songs to Inspire You in Living Proudly Alcohol-Free
Read more: 3 Songs to Inspire You in Living Proudly Alcohol-FreeSobriety and freedom were not words that I associated with one another until very recently. When I realized that I needed to stop drinking I was terrified that my life would become dull. Without color. Without creative focus. And then I read a book by Lucy Rocca called How to lead a happier, healthier, and…

The Adventure of Discovery in Recovery – A Podcast with Thoughts on Neuroplasticity in Sobriety
Read more: The Adventure of Discovery in Recovery – A Podcast with Thoughts on Neuroplasticity in SobrietyI once thought that if I was going to be successful at staying sober long term, I would have to join Alcoholics Anonymous and work the 12 steps, but as I near the beginning of my 7th-year alcohol- free, I have found that following my own path has meant that rather than “living in recovery”…

Getting Comfortable With Being Uncomfortable – Learning New in Sobriety
Read more: Getting Comfortable With Being Uncomfortable – Learning New in SobrietyIt’s hard to believe that I am one year sober today. One year ago when I stopped drinking, I couldn’t imagine where I would be now. I felt so guilty then, and ashamed of the draw alcohol had on me. I didn’t realize its grip until all of a sudden I did. It was very…

Solve the Puzzle of Self Love
Read more: Solve the Puzzle of Self LoveSobriety and life right now feels to me like I’m building a giant puzzle. I had some pieces to start but didn’t know where they belonged or how they would fit. I felt unsure, nervous and even terrified of ruining the puzzle or losing the pieces, but I started building it anyways. More pieces started…

Everything I Needed to Go Sober I Learned Teaching Preschool
Read more: Everything I Needed to Go Sober I Learned Teaching PreschoolI’m a preschool teacher. A newly sober preschool teacher who stopped indulging in “wine time” when my drinking slid from concerning, to alarming. I’ve been noticing as I write my way through my second year sober that the first months of my sober journey followed the curriculum I teach at school pretty closely. We start…

“It was a random day of internet searching that brought me to Boozemusings Blog and to Boom Community, and my life has been changed by it. I needed some kind of “epiphany” for a mind change, and I have learned things about alcohol and its physical effects that have given me that kind of enlightenment. I check in several times a day and it is like meeting with my family. The resources here are incredible, and inexhaustible. I have quit lit books, etc. Will check out some of the other resources in others’ responses, but for me, Boom has been the answer. I feel it has to do with the tireless work of Boom’s creators. Thank you, Boom!!!!!!!”
