Read more: Are You Maybe Sober Curious? An Invitation to Imagine The Life that Sobriety Cultivates2 years ago, while searching around the internet for help to stop drinking, I stumbled over some words that were not at all what I expected to be reading. The title of the article was pretty straightforward, Guide to your First Month Sober: Why and How to Quit Drinking, but there was little in it…

Want to Stop Drinking? Blog Away from “Wine o’Clock”
Read more: Want to Stop Drinking? Blog Away from “Wine o’Clock”Sobriety blogs, and blogs in general, have evolved a lot since I read my first post on Unpickled back in 2015. In 2015 blogs were mostly personal, an expression of an individual’s ideas or experience enthusiastically shared in this new forum of the internet. Blogs had not yet become the” storefronts” that they often are now. They…

Freely Feeling – Sober the Highs and Lows
Read more: Freely Feeling – Sober the Highs and LowsSober and Freedom, are not two words that I have often put together. Did I expect to feel free sober? No! Freedom was one of my biggest mental blocks to quitting drinking because for so long I framed alcohol as providing freedom. Freedom to be myself, freedom to shirk responsibility, freedom to be an adult, and make…

Looking Back from 5 Months Sober
Read more: Looking Back from 5 Months SoberI think it’s important to look back- from 5 months sober – to that place I was before. You know that place we go, that one that leaves us so scared and lonely and cut off. Those days /nights where you’ve drunk so much and you’re getting louder and slurring your words, and you’re repeating…

Are You Ready to End Your Abusive Relationship With Alcohol?
Read more: Are You Ready to End Your Abusive Relationship With Alcohol?Today is an important day for me. Today is my son’s birthday. He is already in his 30’s and that’s how long my relationship with alcohol pushed him out the way. For a large part of his life, I wasn’t present. Oh, I was there – but I wasn’t there for him. Because I was…

Who am I Without Alcohol?
Read more: Who am I Without Alcohol?Yesterday was my three-month Soberversary. Honestly, it’s both hard to believe that I am three months sober and hard to believe that I ever drank at all. It’s a very strange duality. I’ve been thinking a lot these last couple of days about something that I’ve read frequently in Quit Lit books, that I’ve heard…

Lessons From the Middle of the Lake in Year 3 Sober
Read more: Lessons From the Middle of the Lake in Year 3 SoberLong-term sobriety is still not without its significant challenges and temptations and I need to write them down for myself. Today I participated in a 10 km swim – one that I started doing annually with a group of friends a few years ago. We all showed up at the lake at 5:00 am. Just…

Nine days ago, in my third year of sobriety, I…

A Test of Your Alcohol Awareness – What is Normal Drinking?
Read more: A Test of Your Alcohol Awareness – What is Normal Drinking?Today I saw an article about “Alcohol Awareness” pop up in my Facebook feed. When it comes to drinking, what is ‘normal’? At first, I clicked on the comments; I was saddened by how many people commented in a negative way – promoting binge drinking and mocking sobriety. But rather than get discouraged by the…

“It was a random day of internet searching that brought me to Boozemusings Blog and to Boom Community, and my life has been changed by it. I needed some kind of “epiphany” for a mind change, and I have learned things about alcohol and its physical effects that have given me that kind of enlightenment. I check in several times a day and it is like meeting with my family. The resources here are incredible, and inexhaustible. I have quit lit books, etc. Will check out some of the other resources in others’ responses, but for me, Boom has been the answer. I feel it has to do with the tireless work of Boom’s creators. Thank you, Boom!!!!!!!”
