Welcome to BOOM! There are many websites and apps that offer coaching and community support to stop drinking alcohol in a style that is very different from the AA 12-step tradition. Our BOOM Rethink the Drink community is based on interacting in a blog-style format. We are glad that you have found us here at BOOM and hope that you will find the solutions that you’re looking for in our community.
If you’d like to know how our community members feel about Boom you can read their testimonials here , many of which include links to posts that they’ve written over the years in BOOM.
If you are ready to join the conversation open this article for a quick overview of how posting works in our community :
or start out in our Bookclub discussions , the links to which you can find here
Everyone who joins our community is here to either cut back on their drinking or stop altogether. We’re here to tackle the challenge of living dry, or mostly dry, in a very wet world. In other words, we are here to redefine who we are and how we live on our own terms.
We offer a private community website at www.boomrethinkthedrink.com, an app, and a public blog, Boozemusings, that is an archive of many of our stories, experience, tips, and tools. This post is from that blog and will serve as a resource with answers to frequently asked questions about getting started in using BOOM.

While you are in the BOOM Rethink the Drink community, which is completely private and we encourage you to make it more so by setting up an anonymous profile, you will often see articles like this one pop up from our public blog. This explains in detail how to tell the difference between the two Understanding the Difference Between Boom and Boozemusings.
But first, before reading anything else, you may want to start getting to know our community and how we work together to support each other.
Please take a minute to set up an anonymous profile – this explains how Thoughts on Anonymity, Profile Pictures and that “Share Something Amazing” Prompt
And check your notifications settings so that you are not suddenly buried in email notifications from Mighty Networks, our host – Setting up Your email notifications
And if you are here to work toward Moderate Drinking goals please give this post a quick read so that you know How to Use the Moderate Drinking Group in BOOM
Our setup in BOOM is similar to Facebook in that we have a home feed where all of the posts for the day show up – All Activity. You can read and comment there or start sharing your own posts in our – Boom Community Posting Space – Moderate Drinking Group or Outside of the Bottle . Please feel comfortable asking any questions you may have either in a post to the community or here by private message – Administration Private Message Box. Remember we are private and you are anonymous here.
You can write as much or as little as you’d like in your posts. Start by telling us why you’re here. What do you hope to achieve? The more you share the more you’ll learn about yourself and the more we’ll be able to offer support and ideas. We’re a real give-and-take community. If you spend some time here daily reading and writing you will find that you begin to figure out what you need to do and how to do it
Please post often. ( this explains posting How Posting Works )
Once you’ve had a chance to look around and get comfortable please read the following posts to help you further understand how to use the BOOM Community
And Here are some posts with tools to help you get started. You will find lots of resources here to help you get your drinking under control, or to stop altogether, but your biggest resource is your commitment to change, and our community.
Let’s Rethink the Drink and move forward together.
If you have any question about our code of behavior you’ll find it here Member Guidlines
Rewrite your narrative. Each day as you work it through, spend a bit of time here telling your story, listening to ours, and deciding for yourself which way your life will go.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
