Self Destruct?

Are we asking for trouble?
Do we have a button to self destruct?
Or have we been mis-sold alcohol’s construct?

We were told it’s a drink that’s social
and the height of sophistication
Not that we’d want to use it
for self medication.

So who’s to blame?
We shouldn’t feel shame
We weren’t told the whole truth
About it’s use.

It’s a toxin after all
How can we expect not to fall?
So, in my view,
Moderate drinkers
It could also, eventually be you.

I was in the moderate percent
I felt fortunate and free
of alcohol’s strong grip.
It wasn’t affecting me,
until it kind of did
and it meant
I started to be
a lot less present

Well that was a shock!
I needed to take stock,
To understand and and assess,
Why my mind and my moods were becoming a mess

I no longer felt fine
I was getting depressed
It was not resolved by wine

Time to think about it and change my mind
