Why I do not Drink
Read more: Why I do not DrinkThe Lizard in the Wall I had dropped a friend off at an appointment and agreed to wait until they were finished. It was going to take a bit of time so I went for a short stroll. I’m not one to walk fast unless it is for exercise. If there is a destination in…

Podcasts on Sobriety and Recovery – Inspiration for Loving Life Alcohol Free
Read more: Podcasts on Sobriety and Recovery – Inspiration for Loving Life Alcohol FreeOne of the things that I love about listening to sobriety-recovery podcasts, is the quality of people out there in the world who struggled with their alcohol demons, won big time, and are living joyfully sober. The people you meet in recovery circles are some of the most healthy, vibrant, creative, sensitive, wise, authentic, and…

How to get From Here to There
Read more: How to get From Here to ThereI’ve been pondering the question of how to get from here to there when you stop drinking. “Here” of course being addicted to alcohol, and “There” being free from alcohol. This is a very different thing from ‘not drinking’ and it’s a different focus than just staying sober. To stay sober, to focus on Not…

Together We Grow
Read more: Together We GrowThere are hundreds of thousands of people all over the world worried about what effect alcohol is having on their lives. Maybe they’ve seen their intake slowly creep up. Maybe they binge drink after going without alcohol for a long time. Maybe the effects they get from alcohol are getting increasingly uncomfortable for them. Maybe…

I Don’t Drink
Read more: I Don’t DrinkIt is a glorious afternoon here on Canada’s west coast. I find the warm summer weather to be an uplifting influence on my mood. A welcome inspiration. I have had no urgings or inclinations toward drinking in the past six months. This is a good thing but can also be a dangerous one. I am…

1,500 days Alcohol-Free
Read more: 1,500 days Alcohol-FreeToday I am celebrating 1,500 days Alcohol-Free … Because… I accepted that once I start drinking I CANNOT control how much I drink. I found a community of people who will support and encourage me to do just that. I accepted that self-abuse is NOT self-care. I surrendered to knowing that sometimes I simply need…

Sunday Morning Calm – Spring Rain
Read more: Sunday Morning Calm – Spring RainIt’s still early spring, but so far it has been mostly grey and rainy. This has begun to affect some people emotionally, so I’ve been told, and it has affected me as well. Some days and weeks are more challenging than others and that’s just the way life is. I’ve had some good moments this…

Thought for the Day: Something’s Missing…
Read more: Thought for the Day: Something’s Missing…As I was driving into work this morning shielding my eyes from the bright morning sun I realized that something is definitely missing in my alcohol-free world view these days. There is a complete lack of drama. There is a clarity and peace that I didn’t used to have. I thought a bit about how…

If AA Were Invented Today
Read more: If AA Were Invented TodayI, like many others who found themselves in a cyber-community learning to develop a better attitude towards alcohol, had a visceral horror of AA. With me, it was very personal. My drunk brain lay virtually all of the blame for my misfortunes down to the fact that my ex-husband became so involved, so wedded to…

“It was a random day of internet searching that brought me to Boozemusings Blog and to Boom Community, and my life has been changed by it. I needed some kind of “epiphany” for a mind change, and I have learned things about alcohol and its physical effects that have given me that kind of enlightenment. I check in several times a day and it is like meeting with my family. The resources here are incredible, and inexhaustible. I have quit lit books, etc. Will check out some of the other resources in others’ responses, but for me, Boom has been the answer. I feel it has to do with the tireless work of Boom’s creators. Thank you, Boom!!!!!!!”
