Thought for the Day : Sober Courage
Read more: Thought for the Day : Sober CourageI used to imagine myself staring my fear down and feeling so vulnerable without alcohol, like I was left out in the open bare, without any weapons or shield. Any arrow could pierce me in an instant. Now I believe that my sobriety is the most important defense of all. It gives me strength beyond…

Feelings are like Lighthouses
Read more: Feelings are like LighthousesI think the toughest thing to deal with when we get sober, is the onslaught of feelings. The normal human reactions and responses that we medicated for years, or decades. Christ, they come at us like huge waves in the first couple of years, no doubt about it. Sometimes tsunamis. It’s one of the reasons…

The Key is Endurance
Read more: The Key is EnduranceEvery time you stop, you learn a little more about what sober is. So tonight I stopped in at a local grocery store to get a few things. It’s the freestanding kind that has a liquor store in it. The thought of going in to buy alcohol didn’t cross my mind, any more than walking…

Thought for The Day
Read more: Thought for The DayThe love of your life is a snake in your bed. He offers you escape from all the big meanies and scaries, while he quietly tightens the noose around your neck and the bindings on your wrists and ankles. When others try to save you from him, he whispers in your ear “They don’t know…

Sitting with the Contradictions
Read more: Sitting with the ContradictionsAs I write this now I feel just so and happy and proud for having resisted the cravings of a Saturday night because what’s on the other side of that makes it all worth it. And what was once a garden of earthly delights is now a minefield. I’ve made a commitment to myself to…

Do you Want to Drink or Do you Need to Drink? – Dropping the Denial
Read more: Do you Want to Drink or Do you Need to Drink? – Dropping the DenialWhen I was deep into my years of drinking heavily most nights and regretting it most mornings, I developed a routine of carefully saying “I’m drinking because I want a drink. I don’t NEED a drink I want one”. I was consciously saying WANT instead of NEED because if I admitted to needing a drink…

“It was a random day of internet searching that brought me to Boozemusings Blog and to Boom Community, and my life has been changed by it. I needed some kind of “epiphany” for a mind change, and I have learned things about alcohol and its physical effects that have given me that kind of enlightenment. I check in several times a day and it is like meeting with my family. The resources here are incredible, and inexhaustible. I have quit lit books, etc. Will check out some of the other resources in others’ responses, but for me, Boom has been the answer. I feel it has to do with the tireless work of Boom’s creators. Thank you, Boom!!!!!!!”
