I was thinking earlier how by not drinking I increase my options.
By staying sober I increase my potential for goodness, for peace, for stability. All sorts of things.
Currently, not drinking is enabling me to make the most of a business opportunity – I just wouldn’t have been able to do what I need to to make it work if drink was still a prominent part of my life.
So what was drinking doing for me?
It was putting me at a disadvantage, that’s what.
When we drink it’s because we want to feel ok. To feel happier. To help us cope when life is tough. Because alcohol lies and tells us it can do all sorts of shit for us that it can’t deliver. Because by drinking, we weaken ourselves.
The drink puts us at a Disadvantage.
We don’t function normally while drinking and for a couple of days after. We miss stuff. We can’t show up for stuff. We’re burning the candle so much the brain power isn’t fully there to operate at our natural, unadulterated level.
It dulls us.
Takes our power, strength and serenity.
If you have everything going for you right now, don’t let booze take the shine off it.
If you already feel disadvantaged in life, don’t let booze take away your power to deal with that and make things better. It stops us properly looking after ourselves so we can recuperate from life’s knocks.
We deserve better.
And so do the people around us.
So if the wine witch, booze monster, lizard brain is telling you that you absolutely must drink, because things will be better with that drink, remember that it’s that drink that puts you at a disadvantage in your life. It’s worth fighting that voice until it’s shut up for the night so that tomorrow you will be able to smile. Even if everything around you is shit tomorrow, you can feel happy that you are not going to be facing that hindered by the effects of the night before. Because you did something difficult that you can be really proud of. Because you are doing something that gives you more options, not less, for your future.
Stay strong. Have Faith. You can do it. It’s worth it.
Love to all xxx
Not every day can be a rainbow or pink cloud, but sober you have the advantage of mixing your own palette.
Alcohol is the only drug that people question you for NOT using but you don’t HAVE to drink. Don’t stay trapped because the stigma of not drinking seems worse than the cost of drinking to much.
