Make the New Year’s Resolution that Could Change Everything

Setting Goals for 2020 Dry January online support

Is stop drinking on your New Year’s resolution list? Are you thinking of doing an alcohol detox like Dry January, or have you decided that you need to go alcohol-free and stick to it for good?

A lot of people look at Dry January as a deprivation. They see doing a Dry January as almost punishing themselves for drinking too much in December. The result is that people often overdrink once again in February.

Why not reframe it for yourself?

If you are considering changing your relationship with alcohol, why not give yourself the gift of a Dry January? Doing this one thing differently could change the way you do everything! For the better.

It happens in the most wonderful ways!

These are thoughts from members of our online community on why taking a break from the booze is a great way to start this new decade… come join us for support and inspiration in Dry January and throughout the year BOOM Rethink the Drink ! We are an online community of peers who are talking it through together every day. Free, independent and there for each other 24-7 around the world. What do you have to lose except the hangovers?

When I joined this community, I joined to think it all through. I was scared to stop drinking. Even for a week let alone a month. That said, it didnโ€™t take me long to realise I wanted to give myself 100 days of sobriety. I felt so good after the first weeks I wanted to see how I felt after 100 days.

I celebrate 6 months sober next week. And look forward to the next 6. I just like living alcohol-free that much better. So many little and big changes. I am comfortable in my own skin in a way I couldnโ€™t have pictured as a drinker.

I would not have been able to do it without Boom. Come join us and I’ll be there to talk it through with you.

If you can’t imagine a week much less a month without drinking, that’s because your brain is wired for booze and it is controlling your behaviour. You can’t know how much this is true until you experience a bit of alcohol-free time. Give it a month and you will be a new person.

Literally.

Your brain chemistry creates the reality with which you experience life. You don’t know what you are missing if you’re in a daily state of mild detox after a bit of a binge the night before. You have become used to all kinds of negative states as a drinker but guess what? That’s not the real you.

Do you want to find out what you’ve got? See what you have been missing? Look younger within a week? Feel better, sleep better and function with all pistons firing?

Yes you do.

One month, January 2020. Wake up to life! Give a month alcohol-free a try. Which could turn into more. Who knows. There is only one way to find out how sober feels.

How to Stop Drinking

My life was unpredictable
My head was in a spin
Should I drink on a Monday?
I could get a few in!
Those few turned into many
Hidden under towels
Who was I kidding
The alcohol terrorist
He knew he had me now
Sneaking up & taking gulps
Was my favourite game
Iโ€™d gone beyond caring
About the guilt & the shame
Iโ€™d start again tomorrow
No one needs to know
This is my little secret
More time I can borrow
Canโ€™t I?
Canโ€™t you?
Just stop today?
Decisions made
No better way to start this new decade ๐Ÿฅณ

  9. […] As long as we continue to glamorize alcohol and vilify, diminish, or label those who become dangerously addicted to it, not picking up that one drink will be doubly hard but it will always be worth it to fight to stay sober.
