In my lifetime there have never been more uncertain times. Australia seemed to have managed the first wave of the Covid pandemic quickly and efficiently but suddenly large areas are in lockdown. The second wave of Covid in the United States has started almost before the first wave rolled to shore. Bars and restaurants that were open are now closing and it is predictable that the same sort of sudden rise in Covid cases will follow the recent opening of pubs in Britain. Covid loves a party.
It can be hard to catch your breath emotionally from day to day even if the only news you allow in are a few headlines. Many people will say that these uncertain times are best managed with a drink or four, to dull the harsh edges of reality. Times of crisis are times when drinking away the pain is encouraged most but, if you have committed to staying dry this July, to going alcohol-free for a short term detox, or to staying sober long term here is some inspiration to help you stay focused.

So what now…the new normal?
I feel lost
But expected to carry on as normal
Work as usual
Meetings and stuff
Keep calm and carry on
When things get rough?
But what about when it just gets too tough?
Ignore it, hide, let it all pass me by?
Cry, lie, try, buy?
What do I do when it turns black from blue?
This normal is new
Scary, eerie, unnaturally quiet too
What if your path isn’t the one that you’d choose
But the only one available to you?
Keep your wits about you
Try to enjoy life aswell
And remember
The only way out is through
When you’re going through hell
Walk gracefully along the rocks that burn the soles of your feet
Be mindful and kindful
And wise to defeat
Try to find ways to smile if not to laugh
Because being honest
What choice do you have?
The hard times won’t last
Though they feel like they will
So just keep holding yourself tight until….
The blue skies will appear
There’ll be less fear
And we might even appreciate more that we’re here

At times like these
When times are so uncertain
And life seems scary as hell
We can only control how we react to things
And be there for each other aswell
Sober we do that much better
It’s a fact
We make better decisions and we’ve so much more tact
Perhaps sobriety holds people together
Acting as glue or gel
In times of crisis we definitely need that
We’re able to spring into action
To be just what our families might need
Grateful now that we didn’t listen to the alcohol voices greed
Moving past all the rubbish it offers
We’re growing and evolving
As we know now shit still glitters and it’s not problem solving
To be present 100% really
It never does get old
Sobriety now I see
You’re worth your weight in gold! 💰
