What are the Consequences of Drinking too Much?
Read more: What are the Consequences of Drinking too Much?A life filled with booze truly is a life of reactivity. It’s shadowboxing. Swinging away at whatever moves – expending energy on an illusion. Sobriety, on the other hand, is proactive. It’s taking the wheel. It’s steering your own ship again – choosing your destination and enjoying your ride on the waves, whatever may come.

When Enough is Enough and You Know It’s Enough
Read more: When Enough is Enough and You Know It’s EnoughI realized that the solution to my problem was simple. I could drink, I just couldn’t let anyone catch me drinking or drunk. Thus began the nights of “going to bed early because I’m sober now and that’s what sober people do,” aka, drinking in my bedroom with the door locked.

Celebrate Your Best Intentions
Read more: Celebrate Your Best IntentionsThis time 4 years ago, I was in deep denial about my drinking problem, and had resigned to the fact that drinking was me, part of me, woven into the fabric of me, and my lot in life. Never did I even consider quitting. I always joked.”I’m not a quitter!”

The Potential for Joy is in Each Day One
Read more: The Potential for Joy is in Each Day OneAlcohol made me think I could be joyful and light. Escape my own serious personality. Be silly. But really it just went zooming past the fun part into the sloppy part and the sometimes mean part where I said and did many unkind things. That’s not joy.

7 Gifts that Staying Alcohol-Free this Holiday Season Gives to Me
Read more: 7 Gifts that Staying Alcohol-Free this Holiday Season Gives to MeI always struggled with keeping a lid on the amount I drank at my company party. Isn’t it better to not have to think about that? You can be the person who remembers everything and doesn’t make any costly mistakes when the liquored-up Sales Manager tries to catch you under the mistletoe…

An Alcohol-Free Holiday Season?
Read more: An Alcohol-Free Holiday Season? The holidays are here. I guess they began with Halloween. Or was it Labor Day, or July Fourth, or last weekend, or was it thirsty Thursday? You know the drill. What’s your excuse for drinking? Just pick one…they are everywhere. They’re free, but (full disclosure), they do come with strings attached. And everyone will be…

How to Quit Drinking If You Feel Like You Can’t
Read more: How to Quit Drinking If You Feel Like You Can’tI know the depth of despair, the exhaustion, the hopelessness, and the anger (sometimes flat-out rage!) at myself for somehow not being strong enough to beat this thing. Most days I felt like it beat me and I just couldn’t seem to string enough days together to give it a proper beating back.

What if You Only Get One Chance?
Read more: What if You Only Get One Chance?Think about what you want to see for yourself that would only be possible without alcohol. For example: Healing from health problems caused by drinking; what types of relationships will be possible; who you want to be in relationships with others; where you’d like to travel; how much money will you save each day you don’t drink,…

“It was a random day of internet searching that brought me to Boozemusings Blog and to Boom Community, and my life has been changed by it. I needed some kind of “epiphany” for a mind change, and I have learned things about alcohol and its physical effects that have given me that kind of enlightenment. I check in several times a day and it is like meeting with my family. The resources here are incredible, and inexhaustible. I have quit lit books, etc. Will check out some of the other resources in others’ responses, but for me, Boom has been the answer. I feel it has to do with the tireless work of Boom’s creators. Thank you, Boom!!!!!!!”
